2013 Summer Camps Summary

2013 proved to be the most highly attended of any of our summer camp seasons, particularly in July. We are proud to have provided access to our players in 2013 two top, high-level guest coaches in Marco Toppmoller from Buyern Munich (Spring camps), and Leo van Veen from Ajax, Amsterdam (Summer camps).
2013 EFS Summer Camp

Whistler Camp The European Football School launched its first of nine summer camps in Whistler, July 1 – 5, 2013. This camp included many quality players but it was the first year we did not include our youngest age group. We thank the Whistler Youth Soccer Club, PJ O’Heany and Mitch Forster for setting up the camp and handling registration on our behalf.

Williams Lake Camp Williams Lake, BC proved to be the largest camp in the 10 years EFS has conducted camps in that City. Just under 100 players attended Esler Field the week of July 8 – 12. The camp was a huge success thanks to the Williams Lake Youth Soccer Association and most particularly Paula Freeman, President, Brian Hansen, Technical Director, Brenda Mann and Rob Tazalaar. We thank all of them for promoting the camp and providing their support for our summer camp program. We would also like to acknowledge the continued support of Williams Lake residents James and Jamie Tanis and Brent and Patti Ruby.

East Vancouver Scholarship Camp EFS together with the help of its parents’ generous donations was able to sponsor 78 youth players at this year’s East Vancouver Scholarship Camp. This year was most well-organized and highest quality camp since its inception, due largely to the organization by Linda de Ciantis at Ray-Cam Community Centre and Ron Suzuki of the Strathcona Community Centre. The players were well organized by the camp counselors and we thank them for their participation. We wish to once again thank all our EFS parents who donated funds for this years’ camp, and particularly Drew Hoyle and the CIBC Charity Foundation for their very generous donation.

We were pleased with the effort and willingness of the Shushwap Youth Soccer Association to promote the EFS program. Many thanks to Kevin Harrison, Executive Director of the SYSA.

Kamloops Camp This year’s camp, July 29 – Aug 2, 2013 was well attended by many quality players the week of August 2nd - 6th. Marnie Olson was instrumental in putting together the camp at Exhibition Park and for promoting EFS once again in the Kamloops community.
2013 Kamloops Camp

Squamish Camp This year’s morning camp in Squamish, BC Aug. 19 – 23, 2013 had the second highest attendance behind Williams Lake, with 83 players registered. This year EFS featured guest coach, Leo van Veen from Ajax, Amsterdam who worked with the players for 3 of the 5 day camp. We thank Angie and Dale Venekamp for their help in promoting the camp in the Squamish community and also to Jamie and Jacquie Williams for their support. Thank you to Squamish Youth Soccer and the parents and players of this community for their continued support of our program.

Burnaby Camp Our Burnaby afternoon camp, August 19 – 23, 2013 featured guest coach, Leo van Veen, and although the number of players participating was not what we expected, the quality of the players was extremely high. We thank Brad Atchem for his tremendous effort in recruiting and registering this camp’s players.

Mount Currie Camp Our final week of summer camps, August 26 – 30, 2013, featuring Leo van Veen, was held in the morning in Mount Currie, BC where 27 players took part. The number of players was lower than expected in this first ever summer camp in the Mount Currie community following an earlier well-attended Spring camp this year in Pemberton. EFS thanks Alphonse Wallace, Loretta Stager and Shayne Peters for their help with this year’s registration. We hope to return next summer.

North Vancouver Camp Leo van Veen’s final camp as guest coach was held in North Vancouver in the afternoon the week of August 26 – 30, 2013. We had 41 players attending camp this year. The players enjoyed the coaching of Leo and look forward to another camp next summer.
